  1. I've had a lot of fun with my 20 mm and tried a 24. The wide angle possibilities are more exciting with the 20 in landscapes. flower closeups, and may other subjects. However, the 20 requires more thought and care in use because (1) objects intrude more easily (like your own shadow or feet), and (2) it's easy to loose the subject in the bigger image space. You need to pay more attention to working with your foreground. For working reportage situations with people (not nature photography here anymore) the 24 is easier to manage, so if scenery (natural and manmade) is not your be all and end all, you might have to make a tough choice.
  2. Have you checked to make sure that the depth of field preview is

    turned off? I don't mean this as a criticism, but I found myself

    struggling to focus clearly with the 501C the other day and finally

    realized that I had left the preview stopped down. (Only lost about 5 stops of light in the viewfinder!)
