Symmetry and color are wonderful. A great achievement in what must have been a tricky room. All those doctors and not a golf club in sight!! Ah Queensland, beautiful one day, humid the next.

I know that the timing of these things is governed by the conditions rather than anything we can do, but would a polarizer have given a bit more contrast in the clouds?? Just a suggestion. Still a great image on its own. Well done on being ready enough to capture the moment.

Congratulation on attaining the POW kudos. Great feel to this image, doesn't matter where he is I think we can all put ourselves in his place and feel the freedom. Again, congratulations!

Whoa there, Tony!! Love this!! Exposure details?? Methinks challenges are being set! (in the nicest possible way of course). Sensational shot. I'm off to find another bridge to shoot!

A great opportunity well taken. Congratulations

I was out taking night shots with my mate Stuart Semmens (see
photographer listing for his folder), when we decided that this
rippled glass was a bit too interesting to pass by. So I got him to
get behind it and this was the result. I like the concept but would
be interested in suggestions re- angles, flash, coloring etc. Please
advise, and give it a rating if you feel so inclined.

I think you got it. Made me have a double-take! You just don't imagine scene's like this at such a land mark place. Love it. Makes you feel like one of the wonders of the world is just another spot where you can chill out.

Got to agree, this is great and very creative, but it messing with a classic. Like trying to change Jordan's jump shot.

This shot has great detail, you could count all the rivets if you wanted to! Maybe there could have been something you could have included, or a perspective you could have taken to give the shot a bit more drama. That pole is a little distracting too.

I noticed the one guy in focus sitting against the wall, but in my inexperienced opinion (so take as little notice of it as you wish) he is in too much shadow to be the point of interest. The people in the background are where my eyes are drawn to and they are all out of focus. This could be a great urban scene but for me, it misses that mark as the points of interest are confused by the focus issue.

And pleased you should be.

I've just noticed two spots in the sky. Not sure what they are as they aren't on the print. Might have to check the scanner I think!

As I'm an Aussie, I can see this shot and comment without the attached patriotism and pride that you Americans have. My objective opinion - bloody fantastic shot mate! The atmosphere provided by the fog and the lights enhances the imagery no end. Wonderful stuff. Fair Dinkum.

This was taken around 11pm on top a freezing cold Mt Wellington here
in Hobart (one of the more photogenic cities in the world!!) with a
30 minute exposure at f8. The plan is to go back with only a half
moon so that there's more detail in the star trails. Any other
comments and suggestions welcome.
-
I'd suggest the confusion over ratings may be because whilst this is a really peaceful image, and well done, the bit of the tree sticking out is almost distracting. My first thought was some sort of fish tail stuck on the shot. Great idea and well captured though.

We were lucky to find this gate open at an old historic site that
once was an artillery battery. One burst of flash and the
possibilities are endless as to what's happened inside.

Thanks for the comments, folks. James, there was no filter used on this shot. I did take another one after this using a 25A red filter but didn't put my lens hood on and got some flaring that ruined the shot a bit. I'll try it again another night. Night photography is fantastic fun - go for it.

We were fortunate enough to have a wonderfully still Hobart night so
this one of the bridge was irresistable. Any suggestions or comments
welcome.

So who else thought she was sitting in the basket at first glance? Great image!
-
I agree with the clutter concern. The little you can see of his face makes him intriguing but there's so much stuff there, it's hard to get a fix on something. A great background and a great subject, just too much other stuff perhaps?
-
Sorry mate, but personally I find the blurred leaves are the first things I look at. Pity, great colouring otherwise.
-
This is the beautiful city of Hobart at night from the ever-present
Mt Wellington. I need to get up there and take another one for a
shorter exposure, but please post your advice or opinion!

Chris,
I have an LX myself and can't get a shot from it with half the clarity you have here. Impressed. I'll have to dig it out again and have another play with it.

Congratulations on getting the vital element right, i.e. being there with a camera. This is sensational and while I do find the lights distracting, they are the only way to get a real sense of how small we are in the face of God's creation.
Well done. This is a great shot and all kudos deserved.
