  1. This is great, I don't recall seing an airshow picture as good as thise one and I used to work for one of the biggest's there where in the province for three years. I don't know about the tighter crop, maybe something a tad more panoramic, but I find it very beautifull the way it is

Hmmm... Can't say I find this photo perfect, then again it's far from being something easy to shoot. My suggestion for next time is that you expose a bit longer (not enough to have star trails) vs slower film and try to light paint that collection of crossroad boards with a flash light. I'm not saying it's the solution but it's an idea, at least the lights on it would appear a tad softer and you would have some control over it. Right now the boards are either too dark or too clear.

Portrait photography is all about the eyes, and how well have you captured them here! Great expression, nice tones of exposure, etc... Wonderfull.
  2. I can't find the words to describe how much I appreciate this image. I don't just want to say "Great colors" or "cool shapes", it would not do it justice but that's where my attention is at.

Easily said, I would suggest another angle. Like this you are so far away trying to capture everything that you don't see much of what's going on. In fact I had to read your description to know it was about somone doing bungie jumping (at least that's what I guessed).

If you want to get a more dramatic scene, you have to capture what this is all about. On the top of my head I would have tried to be at the base of the tower and get at least the silhouette of a jumper with arms wide open. Or even better would have been to get the jumper from the top of the tower (need permission of course) and catch him just as he plummets down.

This is so weird. There is a little shabby corner store that I know of, it's completely lost somewhere in a nameless village of an unpopulated area that I have to go nearby when travelling to the home office (insert tumbleweed rolling across the dirt road). Parked at the side of this shack is the exact same car model, the only difference is that its emerald green glitter and every chrome piece of it has been polished. It still sits near two other piles of scrap, so its a pretty weird thing to see. Every now and then, strange circumstances make it that I have to go there (don't ask me why, its off the route I have to take) but when I do go there I cant help taking out my camera and snap a few pictures of the thing. This car has a lot of funky lines and curves, but no picture I took up to now has been to my liking.

Anyway, the only thing I have to say about this shot is that the focus point seems to be centred somewhere along the hood behind the headlight. I dont know if thats intentional or not but it does not do much for me. When you dont have a lot of DOF you might want to focus on something significant so to isolate it from the rest. If you where trying to get the grass on top of the car it just does not feel well framed out.

I have seen interesting portraits with busted up people in the last Snowboarder Photo Annual 03 (pages 122 to 126). But I have to agree with Ed that there is not much to be said here. What's the point of this picture? Can't see aestetics or originality behind the shot. Sorry. And Stephen, I believe Ed was pointing towards the digital medium as the reason why alot of quick snapshots (most of the time bland and uninteresting) are flooding the net all of a sudden. And finally, Thom, I've looked at the rest of your portfolio and I can definitly see that you are trying hard at interesting photography. This is simply not your best. Keep it up.
  3. Must be the fifth time someone pointed this out to me, guess I should write it here for future reference. These pictures where taken pretty much during the same week the new lighting system came up on the old Quebec bridge. I don't remember when but at some point they took away all the color filters, today it's just a mess of spot lights so indeed, this is not how the bridge looks like now and it's quite a shame. An interesting side note is that the old setup was actually a very botched job, at least according to the man who designed the whole thing who once did a rant about it on the local news. Some who saw the original schematics say that it would have looked even more amazing.

Hehe, cool shot! A good photographer always has his or her camera ready for anything that might presents itself. Seems to me like you captured something that is quite uncommon here and that usually makes for really interesting and original images. But what would I suggest? It's thanks to the title and ONE person in the back that I know this is a picture of a homeless (or at least strange looking) person running in a marathon. To give your picture more punch, you should frame your shot so that it has even more impact. Let the image speak for itself. I think this shot is too much focused on the subject where the subject is supposably made interesting by it's quite different environment which was not captured in this shot. In any case, you've got good points for making me remember I should have my camera strapped on at all times :)

The more I look at your portfolio, the more I see imaginative work that really boggles my mind on how one could think of such complexe imagery. Many of your pictures are worth studying up close for a long time. It's amazing work and you have now a new fan. I'll be looking for your next uploads!
