Hi Michelle,

I am currently, a sole proprietor in Hawaii as well. Do you only want to register a business name? If so, as a sole proprietor, you use the Application for Registration of Trade Name. There is a $50 fee, and ownership of a trade name is acquired by adoption and use of the trade name (not just registering it).

If you are a LLC, Partnership, etc. you may need to complete other forms as well. If the application confuses you, definitely contact DCCA (or a local accountant) with your questions.

Good luck! ~Barbara

Aloha All! Thanks for all your suggestions. I wanted to give a quick update - I ended up sending it in to Canon for repair and turns out the zoom unit needed to be fixed. Got it back and seems to be working great now - thanks again for your help!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I tweaked with the diffussion panel, but unfortunately the problem remains. Besides the zoom flashing "-----" in the display, none of the buttons on the flash will work either after the flash charges up. That is partly why I'm guessing it is something internal that is wrong with the flash...(though I would much rather is was user error so then I would not have to send it in for repair!)
Thanks again everyone for your help,
Barbara

Yep - already tried cleaning the contacts since that was mentioned often in the other forum posts. =) And I've made sure that the switch for wireless mode is not set on 'slave' or 'master', but 'off' (though I did try the others to see if that made a difference, and it did not). I'm also making sure that it is securely fastened to the contacts on the camera.
Thinking I may have gotten a defective speedlite...

Aloha Delwyn,
Mahalo for your advice. I have tried it with the IS off, but the problem remains. I also tried it with a new Sigma 10-20 mm lens, but still does not work. Other info that may help troubleshoot: I tried using "P", AV, and Manual modes but that did not rectify the issue either. The flash also gives off a faint "chirping" sound every 2-3 seconds. And the green light indicating proper exposure comes on when it fires (even though the images do not look correctly exposed). ~Barbara

Aloha Everyone,
I recently purchased a 580EX Speedlite, but I'm not sure it is
working correctly (I'm used to photographing with natural lighting
and relatively inexperienced when it comes to using a flash). The
speedlite will power up fine (I'm using fresh batteries), and the
zoom value from the lens and other settings show up in the flash's
display. But after a few seconds, the zoom area of the display
starts to blink, and the buttons on the speedlite cannot be used.
This happens no matter what angle the flash head is tilted. It does
fire, but the images end up looking either over exposed or
underexposed. I am using the 580EX with a 20D and a Canon USM IS 28-
135 lens. I read the speedlite manual and did a search of the
forums, but did find anything addressing this issue. Any
suggestions? Is it a bum flash that I need to send back, or user
error (duh!)? Thanks for your help!

Aloha - Im been active in photography for over 12 years, but mostly
in the landscape & nature genres. Lately Ive been dabbling
in portraits/people photography, including giving it a try as a
casual second photographer at a recent wedding (some samples are
here: <a href="http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?

would love to learn more about wedding photography, especially
candid and photojournalism styles. Looking to assist or be a second
photographer on Oahu (Hawaii). My email is

includes a Canon 20D (also have a Canon EOS Elan 7e body), Canon 28-
135mm USM IS lens, and a Sigma 10-20mm EX DC HSM lens. Im planning
to get a Canon 100mm Macro USM lens soon.
