The image looks a bit too flat for Velvia. It is possible this is a scanning problem. Look at the histogram and see if you see a gap (no values) at the edges. If thats the case, you can rescan it or try to fix it in Photoshop (expanding the histogram to fill in the gap). The image is also a bit soft. This could be a lens issue or scanning as well. And finally, the depth of field is a bit shallow as well. What aperture did you use?

Overall I like the accidental look of it (what else could it be?) as well as the composition.

  1. This is a nicely composed and exposed picture but I question the usefulness of it, given the lack of quality. The digital artifacts are glaring and disturbing. Was this an exercise or an actual intent? You certainly have the ability to observe, control, and gather the image you had in your mind. Why did you use a digital camera for such a subject?
  2. I love the softness, the texture, and the infused light. I may have an issue with the rigid symmetry of an inherently chaotic image but that is based on my taste and it does not in any way invalidate your picture. What I dont understand is this rating system that makes this otherwise superb image comparable to thoughtless snapshots taken with $50 digital cameras.

Thats grotesque. But then again, that exactly what the intent is. How to rate 0 for aesthetics when you mean 10? That is, there is nothing pleasing or aesthetic about this image, which is exactly what makes it great and powerful.

Funny, what most folks complain here is what I think makes this photo outstanding. But then again, there are lots of silly pet shots around here with greater ratings. I love the shallow depth of field. I would be curious to see how this would look with your 85/1.4. Dude, quit your day job. Your work is amazing.
