Upon further research, this is apparently a very common failure for YongNuo flashes.

-

I have had a YongNuo YN468-II Flash for about three years, and it has received pretty light use. I last used it a couple months ago. When I got it out last week, I discovered that the flash will not fire. I installed fresh AA alkaline batteries. The flash powers up; I can cycle through all the menus; the red indicator light comes on, identifying that flash is ready for use. Yet it will not fire. Neither the Pilot (test) button nor either of my cameras (70D and T2i) will cause it to fire. The flash is communicating with the 70D when mounted, as it recognizes my changing ETTL settings or aperture. To my knowledge, the flash has not undergone any physical trauma since I last used it.

I have also attempted to fire remotely it via transmitters.

Is it just dead? Are there any troubleshooting options I can try? Is it possible to replace a bulb in these things? Thanks for any help. Let me know if there's any additional information I can provide that would be helpful in reaching a diagnosis.

I would buy a pack mule to help lug around the 4x5 equipment that I'd be taking on long multi-day hikes.

JDM, when I went to the T2i from my EOS 3, it was definitely a step back in the handling/ergonomics department. I am looking forward to those improved control options.

I do hope others will offer hints/suggestions to make the transition fluid.

I know the 70D has a great many features that will an upgrade over my Rebel T2i, but I think the thing I might me most excited about, from a practical standpoint, is the articulated display. I don't have anything insightful to add to the forum; I've just been waiting a while to upgrade and am pretty excited (and impatient) about the new gear.

My somewhat new retriever has this same manufacturing defect.

I thank you too, Marcus. We must have been simultaneously posting. You are correct that I have inspected the contact pins, but perceived no obvious problem.

Joshua, thanks for the response. I think that is not a task I will undertake. Guess I'll just ride it out until I can justify a new
70D.

I have experienced with multiple lenses (but most recently my EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro), that my Rebel T2i will occasionally give me an "Err 01" message ["Communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts."]. Removing and re-attaching the lens and turning the body off and on will generally resolve the problem. The issue proves very prevalent with any 3rd party lenses, regardless of manufacturer.

The camera is about four years old. I am assuming the described issue is a camera problem. Due to the angle of the camera when the problem most regularly occurs, I am curious as to whether there's a problem with the mounting plate (though it doesn't appear to be loose).

Any suggestions as to the underlying problem and/or any solutions? Thanks.

Having used a T2i for three years, I never thought that any of the times I dropped it were related to the texture/finish of the camera.

I have only used them with a YongNuo 468-II flash, and have no complaints.

Yes. You likely won't get as good a price as you potentially could get selling on eBay or elsewhere (since KEH is in the re-sell business), but you don't have to deal with the hassle involved in selling on your own, either.

Thanks, Bob. I'd be content if I could
just get ahold of a PDF or photocopy.
Are the controls on the DX te same as
those of the 45D?

Does anyone know where I can find a manual for a Wista 45D field camera? Butkus does not have one. Thanks for any suggestions. Search engines turn up very little information on this camera, which I am expecting to land on my doorstep on Tuesday.

Thanks, Brian S.

I have ordered a Wista 45D, which I do not believe is being shipped with a lensboard. My current LF equipment consists of the very common Calumet 4x5 view camera, with a Schneider-Kreuznach 135mm f/4.7 Xenar, and Synchro-Compur P shutter. I am ignorant of whether the lensboard from the Calumet will fit on the Wista. And if not, what size hole the lens/shutter need. So I am coming to you wise folks for counsel. Thanks.

I can't speak for Metz, but I have used a YongNuo YN468-II for a while and am pleased. The biggest limitation is that it does not allow for E-TTL II when used remotely. I also use a couple of YongNuo RF triggers with good success.

Thanks all around, Mark.

You should definitely take the leap to 8x10. Anything less is for chumps.

Good luck with that! Those seem to be an increasingly rare find as well!

I have had mixed results. I used one in my Canon Rebel T2i that started giving me an error message that comes and goes.
