  1. <i>Tim notes, "Jacob, admit it, what you said was in poor taste. It makes you look like an un-educated and insensitive buffoon,...".</i> For what it is worth, that is exactly the opinion I have formed after reading this thread. As for the <i>"paper-thin skin"</i>, Mr. Brown talks about, it appears he must have it since he does not post any photos. He likes to dish it out, but cannot take it in return. My advice Steve is to ignore the buffoon and move on. He will likely want the last word and he can have it.

As for anonymous ratings, I too think they are lame. I used to do a lot of rating/posting on this site and now I just stop by to look at photos once in awhile. I have let my subscription run out after several years and am debating whether to renew.

Josh notes, <i>"Anonymous ratings are there because it has been proven time and time again that people can not act like adults when all ratings are public. Insulting email, revenge ratings, and harassment were regular problems when all ratings were public."</i> Well, it appears we have traded one set of problems for another. In other words, people are not acting like adults with the anonymous ratings either. The new set of problems might be easier for the administration to handle, but as a community member I found the former set of problems more tolerable.

  2. My subscription is up today. I have been debating whether to renew given the current state of the site. I have been here for years. I don't see much choice but to wait for "the long delayed upgrade" to decide. Things have been so sluggish the past week I doubt I could renew if I wanted to.
  3. The canon 100mm macro is a superb lens. I use it with 1.4, 2, and even a 3x TC (all third party), kenko tubes, and the 500d or 250D diopter. My portfolio has plenty of examples.
  4. Martin,

I just got a dSLR a month ago and so I may not know what I am taking about. On the other hand, I had been shooting macro for 3 seasons with prosumer digicams and various accessories.

I have the canon 300d and one of my favorite setups is to use a tamron 2xTC with the canon 100mm macro and then carry the 500D closeup in my pocket for getting in closer still. According to John Shaw's book (and my experience), with the 2xTC, if the camera says F16 than it is really F32 and if the camera says F8, it is really F16. Until I fully understood this, the teleconverter was not working well for me at all.

    Hope this is helpful.
