something mystic here. i spne some time to understand why the atmosphere is so strong, and my opinion is that you choosed a frontfocus on the dress that gives this meaning. is something really clever for this photo.

Pnina. Very nice image you got here. The composition is pretty good so it's the choice of black and white. Good choice of DOF. The only thing if I must say anythig about it would be that the face it's a bit on the soft side for my taste.

Never the less the image it's pretty strong as is.

Pnina;

I like the composition very much with the placement of the figure against the travel of the alleyway in the background working well. The atmosphere in this alley is palpable as is the sense of reflection coming from the man. The B&W conversion is crisp and the harder tones from the higher contrast light in the foreground combine with the narrow dof to set off the man and make him stand out from his environment.

I have to agree with Alex about the lack of focus on the mans face. The focus falling on the mans shoulder does not strike me as a deliberate addition to the scene but rather comes across as a mis-focusing issue and as such it detracts from what would otherwise have been a very strong image. I think I would have found this more satisfying if nothing in the foreground were crisp, instead of his face being blurry and his shoulder being sharp.

Andrea, thanks for you kind words my general aim was to show the different and many faces of Jerusalem

Jorg, yes the future.....

Senol, thanks for stopping by and commenting

Alex, thank you very much for your writing exactly what you feel, and you are of course right about the softer face, I still see it as part of a series about the"layers" composing of the city.( if you saw the other photos in the file)

Gord, as usual it is a pleasure to read your wide evaluation and feelings, to know what you find well and what you find as a flaw.

To explain all of you how it was taken will also explain( not justify though....)the situation. I saw him walking from quite far in the alley, he was an interesting figure and in all this series (which I hope to continue in the future) I wanted to show the different people, the human "mosaic" which is composing the city, so I nearly run after him... and took one frame before he disappeared, without having the time to focus it better and find the very best angle.......I did not like the color version and thought that B/W will express better the atmosphere of him in the alley, and with others photos in this series, the pluralism also religious ,which is existing here

I will upload the colored version, let me know what do you think,?do you find the B/W conversion damaging the figure? The composition? Is it the same?

Thanks for your taking the time.

David, thanks for your nice comment, I appreciate it.

Nicely composed portrait Pnina with impact...............

The view point, the pose with the lower head and the rich grey tones are the strong points of your image.………… PS: Many thanks for your kind comment under my recent photo.

Pnina;

My preference would be for the B&W version which has a crisp feel to the tones and somehow feels more somber which better suits the contemplative look of the man.

I have not done much street shooting but I've done enough to be aware of how incredibly challenging it can be to work on the street and get a candid yet still well composed and technically successful image. I admire your talent for bringing the vibrancy of the street to life for us.

You are a true master my friend. The slightly bowed head coupled with the way that you captured the light in this composition is masterful and commanding. You give this photograph a transfixing quality.

Quite a compelling image, Pnina. I'm usually a stickler for things being sharply in focus, but in this instance it doesn't bother me that the face is a bit soft. I think the language here is through his posture and stance, not through his facial expression. I love his bowed head, which makes him appear to be deep in thought, the B&W tones, and the unintelligible background. Nice lighting as well.

This is very attractive, Pnina. I think the thing that really hits me is the emotion, a solitary man, isolated from his environment, in an unguarded moment. I think everyone's points about focus are valid, but I like the softness on his face as it adds another dimension. The B/W really accentuates all this for me. Very nice.

It is indeed remarkable. I spend some time trying to understand why and than I read Andrea's comment and I finally know why.

Karolos, thanks for your comment, and good luck to you.

Gord, thanks for your follow up and your preference which is mine too. There were so many interesting triggers for photographs there, and I wanted to flow with my aim ,to show the pluralism of that city in a mundane atmosphere( which is disturbed (in the news, ) only by extremists on both sides....)

Adan, you will soon be able to experience the atmosphere yourself. It is a paradise for photography.;-))

Mehmet , thanks for your visit, comments and preference.

Christal, I appreciate your wide impression.I liked his image and thoughtful personality as I have felt it, I wish I could have the time to take more frames of him...but he very fast disappeared in a different direction.

Raymond and Armando, thank you both for stopping by and commenting your impressions.

Drew, his thoughtful figure attracted my attention and feelings too, I'm glad it touched yours ,Thanks for writing what your impression were while observing it.

Mario, thank you as well, I hope you are well.

Andrew, thanks for observing it,and understanding what the photo is 'talking" about...;-))
