Liz, I love this portrait. The puppy is adorable and the expression is priceless. He/she has that sweet, innocent, puppy look with curiousity sparkling in his eyes. His/her chocolate colour is gorgeous. (I love chocolate Labs) The detail in his/her face is perfect, the way the light brings out the detail in his whiskers and fur is wonderful. The warm fall colours, the golden glow is so lovely. This is charming and a pure delight to look at. It's going in My Favorites. Best wishes, Linda

Liz ... absolutely wonderful shot. Clarity and colors are beautiful and I love the backlit approach. The hair to the left is a little distracting and I don't know how you could have cropped that out unless going vertical. Personally I like it in a landscape format. Nice use of DOF. Kevin, I appreciate the comment about the woman's hair showing on the left side. I thought about it a lot, and wasn't sure how to position the crop. Still don't!

Terrific sharpness on the puppy and a great background with the fast fall off of focus you achieve from the long end of your telephoto. This image has a strong feeling of Autumn. I love the way the back lighting defines the puppies head and makes his little whiskers glow.

 

I have mixed feelings about the persons hair. On the one hand it does pull my eye away from the subject but on the other hand it does provide context. Without the hair in the photo the feeling that the pup is hoisted over a shoulder is harder to pick up on. Either way one heck of a nice portrait of a darling model.

maybe - imho - a little unbalanced on the right side (a right crop could possibly resolve the "hairs problem" ?). Compliments, ciao, Giuseppe

I would suggest a tighter crop to eliminate the girl's hair as that would put more focus on this gorgeous puppy's face, Being a dog lover, I have a lab and a golden retriever, this just puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart.
