wingell 0 Posted October 25, 2009 An old abandoned mowing machine rests along the edge of a field in rural upstate New York. Comments and critiques are always welcomed. Thanks...Bill Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 25, 2009 You photographed it in situ, against a rather messy background it's getting lost in. This is essentially a snapshot, and if you'd like something more, it would be the first in a series of exposures from various viewpoints in which you struggle to bring out the particular qualities of interest to you. wingell 0 Posted October 27, 2009 Charles, the point of this photo was to show this tired old implement exactly as it is and also where it is--forgotten in a "messy" field, as you put it. In my work, I shoot "environmental" photos all the time--it may be a guy on a production line or a woman at work in a lab. I never clean up the surroundings, and I wouldn't dream of doing so for this noble mowing machine. It is what it is and where it is. As for the photo being a "snapshot"--of course it is. In the past 40 years, I've taken hundreds of thousands of "snapshots," some, perhaps, better than others. Enough said; thanks for looking. Cheers...Bill Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 27, 2009 I looked at your black-and-white portfolio, and they're not snapshots, they're pictures. You used to relate visual elements in a disciplined fashion. No reason you can't do it now. Link to comment
