whydangle 0 Posted October 21, 2009 This was my first trip to Convict Lake. It is quite beautiful. I chose to shoot this as a pano. I exposed 5 vertical frames (each vertical was blended from two separate exposures to hold the full tonal range without incurring noise in the shadows). The light was even and somewhat flat, but there was enough alpenglow to bring out the colors of this stunning vista. Thanks for taking a look. I hope you might take time to enjoy the Larger view! harrylichtman 0 Posted October 22, 2009 Mark - The detail in the trees, the rocks under water, and the different tones of the distant mnts make this a stunner for me. The even lighting let the detail shine throughout. You mentioned the alpenglow-was the shot taken at sunrise or sunset? The lighting looks more like a bright overcast, though the cloud pattern would certainly suggest otherwise. I guess I would expect more color in the clouds during alpenglow moments. Also, wondered if you ever stitched in PS directly from the RAW files. I have tried processing the Raw files individually, them combining them, and then letting PS combine the Raw directly. WHile a time savings, the differences also seem minimal. Possibly a well exposed RAW under even lighting would pose little problems for the direct method. Anyway, this keeps me dreaming of the Sierra. Harry Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted October 22, 2009 Thanks Dr. Didi, Patsy, Ricardo and Harry! The light is from behind me Harry, the alpenglow is probably not the best choice of words. The light has warmed the mountain and brought out the colors and texture, but no colors were coming from the sky because of the clouds near the horizon blocking the sun. It was one of those sure things that never happened. Same thing the previous evening. The clouds were just right for a light show, only to fizzle. I am still quite happy with the results, despite the low ratings! Link to comment
