She is so sweet and you are a skilld Granpa/photographer keeping her "seating" at this age... She is well colorfully dressed for the occasion.;-))

Thanks for your most welcome visit. 'Sweet' is a word I use most often when talking to her or referring to her. She was well rested & nicely dressed so we decided it was a good time to get some photographs of her. Trouble was, she's still quite wobbly, can't sit up yet. What to do? Pillows came to the rescue. Best, LM.

What a bundle of joy, Len, such a sweet picture.

I see you switch between the Minolta and Canon. Have you tried the CHDK firmware for your A540? I was so intrigued that I bought a 2nd hand A610 to try out the many enhanced functions and have to say it was well worth it.

Good to hear from you again. Well, you got the first part right, she's certainly a bundle of joy! As for the firmware update, I thank you for the info & I may look into it more deeply in the future, but right now I'm quite satisfied with the way things work on the A540 so am reluctant to mess with it. Perhaps I'll do what you did & buy a used one to play with. Thanks for the consideration. Best, LM.

I can not say I have very little work in this area. One thought is to look at the clothing and how it is effected by the pose. When my son was a baby he had a overall jean a outfit some what like this one and the only way it photographed well was laying or being held.

I think the light and color came out very well. If I we to do anything I would add more pillows and lean the child back just a bit. Have a Happy New Year Len, Cheers, Dennis

Thanks for your visit, the first I've had in the new year. (guess you'll be looking for the shiny new car prize) Getting her to lean back wouldn't be a problem, just loosen up on the pillow support, I guess. She doesn't need any help now, at over 7months she sits up well on her own. (See my latest of her in the green dress). I think I have a suitable lighting set up now, nothing too grand but adequate for the task at hand. Happy New Year to you as well. Best, LM.

I viewed this photo earlier, and it does make a nice support for the child.  It's much easier once they begin sitting up.  The newborn stage is so difficult because they're just plain ol' floppy :)

I especially appreciate your input as we are learning from each other in similar photography.  Though this one used two small flashes (one on the background, one on the subject), your one flash solution is something that I could easily consider, and will probably use in my next session of this type.  I also use the P&S camera's built in flash, dialed back, as a trigger for the other more powerful units.  This also aids in filling in the eye shadows and often provides a catch-light in the eyes.  Best, LM.

I soon hope to be adding some additional flashes. But as it stands now, I just have to cope and let in some window light. :)

I'm excited with the possibilities of additional lights.  I would have liked to use my on camera flash for some fill (even though I didn't think about it until you mentioned it) but the wireless system I use does not allow my on camera flash to pop up.
