Near Cascade Peaks Viewpoint, Mount St. Helens

Shot in late afternoon. Used an orange filter and polarizer, should have had a tripod. Excuse the crappy scan. Developed and printed in my home darkroom. Contrast readjusted in photoshop to match print.

Comments, ratings, suggestions would be appreciated on this mountain

landscape. Taken on a blustery day on Mount St. Helens. This is a

working print (straight print). I plan to

re-print later. I'm considering cropping 20% off the top, then

bleaching and toning copper. Any ideas on cropping and printing would

be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, since you're asking for printing advice, I'd say crop almost 30% off the top. It would place the horizon a little high up, but that would help center attention on the foreground. Also, I would burn the immediate foreground (bottom the the print, below the log) to draw you into the print a little more. In fact, you might try masking the log, and burning everything around it a full stop (give or take) to make that log really pop. Also, I would aim for a little detail in that mountain on the far right... it looks jet black (although that could just be the web)

Artistically, I like the composition a lot, and the log almost becomes a second, mini-landscape to me, looking like a big jump off a cliff the way if just drops off. Well done, can't wait to see the finished print.
