This is pretty! Liz, I'm going to have to work the mountain streams in NC this winter after the leaves are gone, in hopes of getting something like this.

Liz, how far upstream is this on the James? Is this at the fall line in Richmond or further up? I've seen it in Richmond and up near Buena Vista, but not much or any of it in between--although I have seen it as a big coastal river further downstream.

Nice one Liz! The higher shutter speed definitely works well in this image. I think you created much more interest with the water detail than you would have got with a longer shutter speed. Creative composition with nice light too.

All the best,

Neil

Thank you all for so many nice comments. To me, this river alternates between being beautiful and elegant, to muddy and debris ridden. I enjoy the chase, though.

Lannie, I go to the river around the "Pony Pasture" area, which is slightly above the fall line.

Very nice Liz. I like the amber highlights in the water, echoing the sunlit rocks.

Reminds me of what my father (a landscape watercolorist) always used to praise in a picture - "Repetition with variation".

Best, David

Beautiful capture, Liz. I like the forms, textures, colors and shadows in this nice river and rocks scene. Good shot! Warm regards!

very nice - I have done a crop just as an exchange between photographers - never claim that mine is better.

Thank you all for stopping by and commenting.

Tony, I always appreciate when someone takes the time to re-work an image of mine; that's a huge compliment.

However, I rather like how I cropped it. I always think through that sort of thing. But, I appreciate your thoughts, always.
