jeffl7 0 Posted October 12, 2009 These scenes are all touching. There is a universal quality to the relationships you're capturing. Still, each photo bears the imprint of a unique and special place in the world. My heart longs to wander these streets one day. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted October 13, 2009 A fantastic capture of motherhood. I like the contrast shown between the children and ther mother. While the kids seem alert to their surroundings, the mother's expression with her lowered eyes gives the impression of resignation. The fact that she is carrying a child on her back is symbolic. Right behind them in the background we see a woman walking freely by herself. Her sense of freedom is evident compared to the mother in front with the kids. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 13, 2009 David thanks for commenting on both Jeff, "Still, each photo bears the imprint of a unique and special place in the world. " Yes it is right, I will add that the way of life in both, are dictated by orthodox rules ,not easy for the women in those ways of life... Adan, good evaluation, As I wrote to Jeff there are resignation in one hand, but also a "fight" of many women in the different cultures to liberate themselves from the orthodox customs. The sense of freedom you saw on the woman behind is a nice sensitive comparison you have made,of what many women would like to achieve. amalsircar 2 Posted October 13, 2009 Pnina, motherhood is same irrespective of Time & countries. She has responsibility and duty to bring-up her children, more than any man. Very good street-shot, indeed. Link to comment

jeverz 0 Posted October 14, 2009 I like the atmosphere of the photo....its a beautiful image! (Thank you very much Pnina for taking the time to comment on my photo. I totally agree with you about the dark shadow. I will indeed try to improve this, not sure if i will re-upload the photo. Its so good to learn, that why i like the "critique". I hadnt really noticed it! I also thought the poster-edge filter was a bit too much. (I added that filter with photoshop) Thanks again, appreciated it, Ellen. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 15, 2009 The woman is the epitome of motherhood. Although she seems to be looking inward here, her appearance is strong and reassuring; you get the feeling that if it came to that, she could defend her family as well as any man. And yet she seems a warm and nourishing presence. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted October 16, 2009 as a mother, i can relate to the look of exhaustion, and the conviction of devotion. yet, this is a world so different from the one i live in. very good work Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 16, 2009 Ellen, thanks, We learn all the time from each other it is always good to have some other pair of eyes....;-)) Jack you are right, but she is many time a creation of education that sees her only as a mother's epitome and less as a woman of her own right. With dreams of self fulfillment....aside from being a mother... Linda, yes it is a world so different from yours and mine as well. But I'm very familiar with the low status of women in different places on the globe, I work with that subject.. See what I wrote you in the next photo( motherhood N2). Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted October 20, 2009 Pnina, from the outside, it's impossible to know what this mother thinks and feels about her position, status, and treatment as a woman in her orthodox society. Neither she nor her children look particularly happy; she could be tired. Pushing a stroller on uneven stone alleys is probably difficult, particularly with a little one her back. From your perspective, the younger woman in back, unmarried -- we see by lack of a head covering but religious garb -- may be looking at her future. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 21, 2009 "From your perspective, the younger woman in back, unmarried -- we see by lack of a head covering but religious garb -- may be looking at her future." Donna, the juxtaposition of both in this one (and the next one of Motherhood) are only hints! Of the long way women still have to walk in many parts of the world, where the men are deciding for them ,how to live, dress and behave.....( and what heppens if they are not obeying) Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted October 21, 2009 Very thought-provoking image, Pnina. What a story I see here. Wonderful capture. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted October 23, 2009 Pnina I have met and known several orthodox women who love their roles in orthodox society. Maybe she feels quite free and lucky. It doesn't seem fair to superimpose judgment based on customary garb. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 23, 2009 Liz, thanks for your comment, yes, I hope both of motherhood will be thought provoking photos about status of women in general. Donna,I don't judge her especially, I don't know both of them I speak about the status of women in diferent countries in general. A documentary movie was on our TV done by 2 women that חזרו בשאלה, it was very educational what happened to them and what is hapening to women in general in the very religious, closed societies. The hegemony of men is total! . they ( this two photos) are just a kind of awarness, not the problem per se. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted November 10, 2009 A superb street capture Pnina...this image really illustrates the power of simplicity for me... Link to comment
