Guest Guest Posted October 6, 2009 Tore, She is a very pretty girl. You have focused very well on her eyes. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer). She has a very pleasant expression. The background is nicely neutral. The backlight helps separate her from the background. The specular highlights on her lips are very good. I like her nice warn skin tones. Her make-up is applied well (perhaps a bit too much blush). Avoid bright colors and bold patterns in clothing. In a portrait the subject’s face is what is most important and nothing should draw the viewer’s attention away from the face. Sleeveless clothing in head and shoulders portraits can cause problems. You want the viewer’s eyes to go to the subject's face without constantly jumping to her arm or shoulder. You do not want her face to compete with any other light areas in your photograph. Do not pose your subject straight on to the camera. This is not a very feminine pose. Showing your subject’s widest areas (shoulder to shoulder or hip to hip) makes those areas appear wide. Your subject will appear thinner, more feminine and more graceful if turned at an angle to the camera. The lines you see from an angle have more apparent motion, interest and grace. You have two catch lights in each eye. One catch light per eye is preferred. If you have multiple catch lights, only one should be dominant. The ideal position for a catch light is at the 10 or 2 o'clock position. To achieve this your main light should be above and to the side of your subject. Her lighting is very flat. Judicious use of shadows can produce a very nice illusion of depth within your photograph and make it much more interesting. Nice shot, Mark Link to comment
