mauroni 0 Posted September 28, 2009 These 4 picture have been taken in France in a small square bordered by cars in the centre of a small village in the Haute PRovence region. These people play a kind of bowling very popular in the south of Europe. The italian name of this game is "Bocce". Hereinafter I attach a brief description of the game as it is played in the countryside where I grew up. A lot of several versions of the game are practised in Italy,, France, Spain, and probably in other mediterranean countries too. The first player throws a hard ball, more or less 4 cm diameter (whose name is "pallino" that means small ball), 10-15 meters far from himself and then each player (normally 4 players coupled two by two) throw 2 hard balls (the "bocce" singular "boccia"), more or less 10 cm diameter. The goal is to get as closer as possible to the "pallino" and, if necessary, to hit the opponents' "bocce" to throw them away. At the end of each manche (when all the players have thrown their "bocce") the couple that has the "bocce" closer to the "pallino" sums two point for each "boccia". The game ends when the first couple reaches the score of 51. I love the great effort and concentration that each player spends in the game. Thank-you for commenting and rating Mauro Link to comment
