Wayne Melia 5,976 Posted September 1, 2002 The window of local safety supply shop, and the juxtapostion of the elements prompted me to take this picture.I recognize the composition is busy; there's the wall, the bars, and the reflections all competing with the actual mannequin. Then the angle from which I shot to keep my own reflection out of the window put the one bar across the front of "her" face.Nevertheless, I thought these all contributed to the desired disquiet of the photo. Now the time has come for others' opinions, so let'r rip. Give me your eeewws, ughs, "borrrring!" and why. And I thank you for it. Link to comment
niranjn 0 Posted September 2, 2002 Nice idea. I agree that you have communicated a sense of disquiet and discomfort by not attempting to exclude the busy background and reflections. Creative! The (relative) emptiness of the bottom half of the picture makes it less jarring (and I like it this way). Link to comment
chuck_dowling 0 Posted September 2, 2002 I like this Wayne. The title is good also, hinting at both the hard hat and bars. Good job. Did you get her number? Link to comment
jeroen wesdorp 0 Posted September 3, 2002 Sorry, Wayne, this doesn't work for me. The idea is interesting in itself, but I don't like the resulting picture. It just doesn't hold my attention. The bars and partially hidden face are ok, but the reflections look very odd to me, especially at the top of the picture. And the grey background suffers perhaps from jpeg-illness. Did you try cropping out the blue wall, just to the right of the iron work? You could consider cropping the bottom 25% too. That would make it simpler. Regards, Jeroen Link to comment
Wayne Melia 5,976 Posted September 3, 2002 Jeroen, thanks for your "take". I concur that the blue wall is questionable, but the rest of the crop (and the levels adjustment), while making perhaps a more dramatic photo, move in a different direction from where I wanted the mannequin to be more diminutive, and the whole thing to be somewhat of an amusing whim. Cheers. Link to comment
glenn_polin 0 Posted September 6, 2002 Sorry, Wayne, but I couldn't resist. Some don't think its photgraphy anymore when it goes this far, but all is fair in love and art. If it disturbs the creative process here, I'll delete it. To me, this is more whimsical. Link to comment
s_wan 0 Posted September 7, 2002 I find the blue wall very distracting even though I like the colour and textures. Could make an interesting subject to tackle in it's own right. Perhaps cropping it out would focus attention on the mannequin and window. Link to comment
