Modin Illit, known also as Kiryat Sefer and Brachfeld, is located 1.4

miles inside the "greenline". It is the largest West Bank "Settlement"

with a population in 2009 of 40,000 (I think). Located between Tel Aviv

and Jerusalem, Modin Illit (Kiryat Sefer) has shopping malls, excellent

schools, too many synagoges to count and homes are in demand by

young Israeli familes. Kiryat Sefer is mentioned in the Book of Judges

(bible). It was destroyed by the Romans in the first century and again in

the second (Wikipedia). The remains of the village were excavated in the

1990s. Every home has one hermetically sealed room in case of gas

attack and that room can be identified in the photo by the window

shutters that open outward.....Photo taken in 2004 from my porch with

Konica ...Photo was submitted to "Street" deleted cropped according to

suggestions on the forum and resubmitted to Documentary where it

better belongs....

Despite significant reservations I have about the "settlements" or should it be "squatters", this photo and the accompanying text do provide a vivid prospective on the issue. GJ
