I've seen efforts similar to this badly executed in the past. So it's a joy to see how beautiful this effect can be when done masterfully. Lovely image, you've captured the spirit of dance.

poetry in motion, may sound trite but that's what came to my mind as this opened out... marvelous fluidity, captured with finesse... like a dance of light and shadow

Yes, even though we might know exactly what this might be (from you Pnina). this has that ethereal quality which sets its part from other similar shots. You happened on the perfect mix of timing, pose and posture.. A very nice catch!

Wow ! Really well captured. I love that all the motions of the jump and twirl have registered on the sensor. I can feel the dance move unfolding. This is how motion studies look when they work out without flaw. It is as if time has been slowed down but not stopped... I almost expect the routine to continue to unfold within the frame.

 

This works fine in B&W however I would be curious to know why you chose B&W over colour for this one ? In my minds eye I see this image in warm pastel tones.

This photograph is not about a static object. It is about a dynamic event, stages of becoming, a person's moving through a space-time continuum she has made her own. And, with this photograph, you have made it yours as well.

 

The photo is incredibly executed. All the cosmic tumblers clicked into place with this one!

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity and uploading the colour version, as well as explaining your choice. I was mostly curious about your reasons so I do appreciate the explanation. I find both versions equally effective. The black and white version does have a slightly more continuous flow. In colour my eye lingers and analyzes more of the details, the dancer is more prominent and the action becomes a slight bit secondary. I think this is due to the combination of a warm and a cool colours. Without the blue I think my eye would keep pace with the motion . Either way a lovely result.

I can imagine the hard work and the number of attempta you have to make to record such an image Pnina...it transfers the movement, the grace and lightness of the dancer to the viewer...wonderful...
