Donna Stavis 0 Posted September 10, 2009 Like a movie star. Beautiful work; I can see various textures on the legs, feet, underbelly with a lovely coloring. Nice background too. There's delicacy in the photograph. I love it! Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted September 10, 2009 Vincenzo, thanks for commenting. I appreciate it. I'm not sure what you mean by WB, are talking about the colour balance or white balance? I will assume that you mean white balance. What do you suggest? I always apprciate advice and helpful criticism. Donna, thank you so much, I'm glad to hear that you like it. Best wishes. soniam 6 Posted September 10, 2009 Beautiful capture. Fabulous crisp detail. I am a little distracted by the cool tones. Perhaps add a warming filter? Regardless, this is one to be proud of. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted September 11, 2009 Thank you for you visit and encouraging comments. I appreciate it. Sonia, I think I will try a warming filter on this just to see how it looks. Thanks for the suggestion, I always appreciate helpful criticism and tips. Best wishes! Link to comment
papasan 0 Posted September 11, 2009 Hi Linda, Lovely shot. Nice details, great posture, good composition. I think what the Vincenzo meant was that the WB was a bit off, too much on the blue side. If this was shot in RAW, you can adjust the WB and color balance quite easily in ACR. If not you can still adjust in Photoshop through a bit of curve adjustment (just pull down the blue) and/or hue/saturation adjustment. I've taken the liberty to play a bit with it. This is really a 30 second attempt so it is far from being perfect, and i can still see too much blue particularly in the plumage under the tail and on the chest, but i think it brings out some of the true colors of the bird and background a bit better. Cheers - michel Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted September 11, 2009 Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I will play around with it myself a bit and see if I can improve it All the best. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted September 12, 2009 The colors may be a little cool........but I don't need to tell you that...but what is most important I think is that you've got such a magnificent capture here Linda...what a majestic bird, and you captured such a great, sharp and detailed shot. Congrats...nice one! Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted September 14, 2009 I echo Michel's words and adjustment. Super image. Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted September 17, 2009 Excellent capture of this guy Linda. The cool color really brings out his blue eyes. Interesting I've never had a good enough look at one before to see the blue eyes. Thanks Linda! All the best,Neil Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted September 18, 2009 Thanks for stopping by and commenting. It is good to hear from you. Neil, the bright blue eyes with the yellow circling them (like eyeliner) were incredibly beautiful. I think this is the most beautiful bird I have seen up close. Best wishes! Link to comment
vincenzo_corbo 0 Posted September 25, 2009 Linda, What Michel has said it's right. WB means White Balance, I see the shot too bluish, probably the setting of the camera WB was to tungsten light. In any case try to make white looks white tweaking in PS, i.e. setting the "White point" to the area you want be white, the left wing feathers close to the body. Ciao, Vince. PS I apologize for not aving answered soon. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks for re-visiting with your helpful advice. I am quite new to photgraphing birds. It's something I would like to do well so I really appreciate any helpful advice. I have a lot to learn. I am going to re-work this in Photoshop. Thanks again. Best wishes, Linda Link to comment
jb the piper 0 Posted August 24, 2010 I rather like the original picture since it looks like it was taken during winter, I don't know, I just suggest that snow usually makes the light blueish. Perfection is not art... Anyways. The original gives a sensation of cold. Anyone can adjust WB but not enyone can chose to not follow the rules and make th work interesting. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted August 24, 2010 Jean-Baptiste, thank you for commenting. I appreciate hearing your thoughts. I know what you mean about the bluish winter light. This was actually taken during the late summer last year, during forest fire season. There was a lot of smoke in the air that is probably what gives this a wintery look. ldavidson 4 Posted October 16, 2010 Wow! Thank you! You really did a great job. Your version has more depth, it seems so much more three demensional. It also looks very natural. You must have desaturated a bit. It looks good, I like it. Link to comment
