Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted September 7, 2009 Ride into Gold Hill, Nevada in search for a piece of the mother lode of yesteryear. Remnants of the ghost mines still stand. This is an interesting - not artistically great - shot of this dry high town on the way into Virginia City. The Bonanza Cartwrights' rode into town a few times from the Ponderosa ranch in the course of a one hour TV show from over 40 miles and a pass across the Sierras. It took us at least that long up a steep 15% grade from the Washoe Valley outside of Carson City. Your comments are appreciated. Link to comment

Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted September 10, 2009 I agree, Rajat. It's part of the human (not only American) quest for riches - greed. The irony is that few of the mother lode chasers actually made any money they were able to keep. In connection with all of this, I read the book, Men to Match My Mountains, by Irving Stone. It's a terrific history of the far West, California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Link to comment
