maria 7 Posted September 25, 2009 The castle Széchényi was built in the 18th century, in 1782 by thecount Széchényi Ferenc, as we are informed from the plan of theschool. Today it is a school, a professional lyceum for horticulture, with more pavilions, out of which the central pavilion is the formercastle, situated in a green space, another protected green space oflocal importance, with art in the public space. It is a monument andthe count was the founder of the National Museum. It has a highbasement, ground floor and upper floor. It is accessible from therailway station of the resort, not the central railway station, goingdirectly to the north, taking distance from the lake. This castle wasconsidered the model for the castle of Timar Mihály, the man with thegolden touch in “The Man With The Golden Touch” of Jókai Mór, who wasfrequently a guest in this building, also information made availableto the tourists at the entrance in the complex. In 1870 in thebuilding an elderly home was made, the president of which was JókaiMór. The building is baroque, a style which was spread at that time, but it was transformed in 1871, getting also eclectic features, as theplate from 1970 informs us, through the addition of the balcony, withtwo stone columns.
