maria 7 Posted September 25, 2009 "Gombás kúria" means in translation “lordly house with mushrooms” andmakes probably reference to the shape of the tympanon. It is abuilding from the second half of the 18th century in the baroque latebaroque style called Zopf, and it is a monument, as the plate of thetourism office from 1964 tells us. Today it is quite out from thetourist circuit, being situated in the north of the town, at halfdistance between the two railway stations, the central one and that ofthe resort, on a road without pedestrian ways. But it is wellmaintained and information about it is available at the touristoffice. It has only a ground floor and a built in roof. Today it iselderly home. For example, also in Keszthely, another resort on theshore of lake Balaton with historic constructions, situated at thewestern end, on the place of the Festetics castle of today, built1880, there was a lordly house, the Pethő-kúria. Even in Balatonfüredthere is the Esterházi Kúria from aprox. 1700, today a ruin, includedin the heart disease hospital from the Reform time centre (from thewikipedia page on Balatonfüred).
