maria 7 Posted September 26, 2009 Opposite to the villa of the writer Jókai and the Round Church, near the Blaha Luiza villa are the two houses of the brother in law of Jókai, the Huray villas. The two monuments were built 1868 (wikipedia). They are situated back from the street, in a courtyard rich in vegetation and old trees, on one of the most beautiful sites. They are in romantic style, typical for the 1860s. They present closed terraces, with rich timber ornamentations. The timber ornamentations are related as well with those mentioned above in Buziaş (see photos in another album). One of them is single storey, the other has an upper story. Villas similar to the single story one are presented on postcards from 1900 displaying the Yacht club (Balatonfured webpage), which is monument as well, other with timber ornamentations can be seen also today in the centre. Both the Huray villa and the Horváth villa are foreseen with quotings from Kereszturi Dezső, doctor. Dr. Huray István (1827-1911) was the physician of the Balatonfüred, as a memorial plate from 1982 tells us. The villas are today the headquarters of the regional tourism company Balaton.
