The Orheiul Vechi Cave Monastery (13th to 18thC) operated when this

part of world was often a dangerous place. The rooms and churches of

the monastery are carved out of limestone caves in the sweeping cliff on

the right side of photo above the river. The only thing invaders saw was

this peaceful pastoral scene.
