I think this is almost the best of your ant shots to-date! The colours and great detail in the image are delightful - thanks for sharing (TFS)!

This is an excellent photo and makes me think twice about selling my G1.

However, how can it be given such high marks for originality ?.

Getting the whole ant in focus is a real achievement. I think you really have a handle on the capabilities of your G1. Very impressive.

The fill-flash really seems to have made the difference. I'm on my way outside now to try it with a flash myself to see if it improves my own shot(s).

Mark,I understand your comments however surely "Originality" can only mean one thing. And in a folder of excellent photos like these can they all be original just because they are all excellent? In the same way that some "Bad" photos may still deserve decent marks for originality.

To quote Philip Greenspun from his guide to critique, when refering to a perfectly good macro of an Orchid ..."I'd give it a 10 for aesthetics but only a 1 for originality--shoving a macro lens into the face of a few orchids in an orchid garden does not require a lot of "outside the box" thinking.".

I would not be so harsh, but at the end of the day what is the point of marking a photo at all if you are not going to think about it and take it seriously?.

I do appreciate your critical evaluation. I believe, however, that we will both be happier when the ratings system is finally overhauled.

Mark,

In my opinion, this is the best of your Ant macros, and they are all wonderful. The color blending as well as the gradual blur off into the background is true art work. These little guys rarely sit still, and it looks like you said something to calm him.
