Books on composition suggest that formal compositional subject placement, with the subjects dead center and equal amounts of space to each side, is quite proper for formal wedding photographs such as used for the entire wedding party in the church or on the steps. This image, however, is a very informal picture taken of the couple but it is still given formal compositional treatment. I think you could crop this to good effect by eliminating one side (I vote for the dark left) and modify the upper cut-off line to maintain the picture proportion you desire.
