Hi Carl,

Interesting capture.

The only 65mm Canon lens that I am aware of is the MP-65 F/2.8 1-5X macro.

If you did use this lens, I suggest that you provide more details as to what you did. Example: at 4.7X magnification, the F/2.8 would function like a F/16 lens for the brightness level.

However, if you stopped down the lens from A 1:1 image to F/16, you would have compromised the lens capability from providing the best results that it is designed to be used at.

I own the lens, have formally tested in in the optical lab and have posted several images using such a lens. It is an excellent lens design.

The primary shortcoming of this type of macro lens is that the focusing is done by a rail system or by moving the subject with in range of focus at a fixed magnification setting. It does not have its own lens focusing system.

Conventional macro lens can be used at various ranges and this does provide much better DOF without having to stop the lens down excessively. While the image would be smaller, it would be at a higher definition level. A good focus, crop and enlargement can result in an excellent image at a lower magnification factor , too.

Best Regards,  Mike
