Thanks for your observations. It was a fun time in spite of almost getting bonked on the head by the boom. (landlubbers on a sailboat are at great risk of injury). Gotta love the 17mm for this type of environment. Best, LM.

even the slanted horizon works here, reinforces the instability, the dynamic flow in the picture - and even If I'm not a color man I also find the color very agreeable, legitimate.

Next time you may consider more vertical space - I mean up to the top of the mast and more yet into the sky above. In this scene - or any other circumstance that cry's for space - you simply shoot another frame, upwards, and easily re-assemble the 2 shots, seamlessly, in photoshop. But of course that's a whole other picture. And you probably familiar with the technique anyway, so i'll just stop rambling.

Thanks for your visit & good ideas. This was a bit of a grab shot; not too much time to properly compose. However, there will be times in the not too distant future for a re-shoot. I will try to be more exacting then. My widest lens is a 17mm on a full frame camera so moving to the very back of the boat may give me the extra room I need to get more elements in the frame. B&W is an option I'll certainly look into. Stay tuned. Best, LM.

Nice but dangerous diagonals :-) Powerful scene, the horizon slant is really helpful in this context. There is a magenta cast, I would try to fix that (without touching the beautiful sky is not easy)

Good eye & nice work. I'll consider that if I ever decide to print it. I often rush to post without really taking time to look deeply & critically at my most recent image. Can't get away with that on this forum. (in reality, the criticism is exactly what we need to get our thinking straight about an image and is the prime reason to be active here in the first place). Thanks for taking the time to point the way. Best, LM.

Everything was said already, I don't mind the slunt horizon and magenta, as it is a strong dynamic ,interesting composition. I like the lines and forms of the spar/man sea and sky ensumble. The feeling of water movement and unstable situation is strong. nice work!

I was taken by the moment and the composition & failed to take critical note of the colour balance. I also agree that photos taken on a small boat have more tolerance for tilted horizons than other scenic shots. Thank goodness for that! :-) Best, LM.

Beyond all the other things that have been written, on most of which I agree, to make it more dramatic I would try to use that nice photoshop instrument called "selective colour", and try to enhance the contrast and the saturation of the sky and, generally, of the blue shades. I totally agree with the others on the effectiveness of the tilted horizon. Regards!

It never occurred to me to use 'Selective Colours' but after a couple of minutes experimenting with it I can see it has some value. I'll dig into it a bit deeper when time permits. Thanks much for your visit and your suggestions. Best, LM.
