The shallow depth-of-field is placed perfectly. I like the lighting and expression. There is just enough seperation of Lucy from the background.

William,

Lucy is a very pretty girl! You have focused well on Lucy's eyes. She has good catch lights. and good eye contact with the camera (viewer). She has a very nice expression.

You may want to soften her face to smooth out her complexion a little. She has very well applied make-up. Darker mascara and little eyeliner under her eyes would make her eyes more dominant. With this elegant formal portrait, I would like to see just a little eyeshadow, also. Subtle is the key here, because she is young and naturally beautiful. Because it is a formal looking portrait, I would also like to see her earrings better match her necklace.

I do not like your color choice for the background. I do like the way you have burned the edges, but the color is too near her skin and hair color. It pulls attention away from her face.

I do not like the out of focus necklace. It does not work for a formal (and I'm not sure any other) portrait. The necklace is important in the portrait. It helps to show her elegance. It is not an extraneous background that is interfering with the subject.

The strings of pearls are not straight. They must be separated. This should have been corrected before you shot.

You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph.

Nice shot,

Mark

Thank you Mark Chartrand for giving me such an in depth analysis . I knew it wasn't right , but I just couldn't see the faults ! Now that you've pointed them out they seem obvious !

When I get the time I will try to rework it following your pointers , although what I can do about the necklace I don't know !

Thank you once again , Bill

I like this one. It has great aesthetic appeal. She's adorable and this image is both formal and natural. Some fuzziness outside of the face, but she's still cute. David

Dear William!

I think this is a really sincere portrait which is full of revelation and kindness. She looks like a young English princess - happy and proud. You did a really good work!
