I agree that this is a classic shot, but not as ubiquitous as you might think. They make it darn hard to get in here. You have to go with a Navajo guide on a long jeep ride to get here. And even if you take the photographer's tour (which gives you a bit more time that the regular tourist tour), you only get 30-40 minutes to shoot. And most of that time you're trying to avoid the throngs of other people (with other tour guides) and/or trying to chase the light around. There is only a very small window of time when the light comes through the slots. The sand gets into everything, my tripod broke, and I was just about in tears when I left this magnificent place. I don't like to be rushed, and I didn't know my camera as well as I should have, so it was just an exercise in frustration. Fortunately, when all was said and done, I ended up with some shots I'm happy with. But what I wouldn't give for a relaxed and leisurely one-on-one visit to this magnificent and spiritual place. I understand there are similarly beautiful places without hoards of people. Next time I'll be looking for those locations. So Radu, it almost IS a once in a lifetime opportunity to shoot these. I hope you get to see it someday. Thanks to both of you for your appreciation of this.

The next time try and plan your trip a little more off season if you can. Then go to the lower canyon. The lower canon won't have nearly as many people and has better light. You won't capture the light beams but will find alot of shots like this. What I like best is that your on your own there. You do have to climb down some ladders but they are well secured into the wall. Beautiful shot by the way.

Yes, I understand that the Lower is much less crowded. Your idea to go off-season is probably the best idea. When I retire and we start our RV adventures across the country, we'll have the luxury of doing that. Thanks for your comment.
