This photo is nothing outstanding...I rescued it from my 'Recycle bin'....and in between bolts of thunder and lightening, I managed to find some 'merit' at least I think, in what I otherwise considered ''Trash".

It was slightly out of focus....did not seem to have any 'true and steady bearings'....but aren't we all like that at times.....?? Comparing human beings to a flower Photograph may seem a little odd or outrageous....but for a time it 'existed' before I decided to discard it. Many will not like this Photo.....it will either be too bright...the border too over powering.....the colors to harsh, or too abstract.....My painting skills are those of a true beginner. Anyone could have created what you see before you.

But what I am trying to say, is that amid the thunder, and threat of tornadoes and damaging winds...I preoccupied myself while the power allowed me....to creat 'Something from what I had considered NOTHING!!!!. I had taken it upon myself to discard an image that otherwise still had possibilities.

I have many friends that have been so supportive on PN......so many, that on this Photographic Journey, have become friends, who I care about. But there is one , however, who in the last weeks has endured a tremendous 'shock', that has literally 'rocked his world.

While he would rather not speak or think of this incident, he has shown amazing strength in the face of adversity. This person I speak of is MJ Orgeron. On the morning of July 17th, 2009 at approximately 7:50 a.m standard time, both the Marriott and the Ritz Carleton had been hit by seperate bombings...MJ was barely minutes away. It was the 'wee hours of the morning' when I heard of the bombings - I 'froze' in my chair...knowing one of 'our own' could very well be in danger.

MJ very rapidly let me know he was OK...for which I will be eternally grateful.....but out of this time of uncertaintly and turmoil, if you will look at his Portfolio...and really take the time to 'visit' his images......he has taken the 'energy' that many of us would have used to 'flee' or loose touch with our Creative 'juices' .........and 'stayed the course', channelling this energy and any anxiety of the future, into a new and exciting Creative Process.

I commend him on this exercise that has taught me very much. Usually, I would have been the 'one to flee'. I am learning from his example, not to flee from ADVERSITY but EMBRACE IT, and LEARN FROM IT............his images, many of which are quite delightful.....are filled with light, texture and life; some are introspective and have us searching our inner selves for 'truths', while others, bring a smile to our faces, and an appreciation of his many talents.

However we interpret his 'newly found joy' in creativity...it is of no matter. For this is his 'journey' out of the 'rubble, violence and sandness' that accompanied this unfortunate time in Jharkata. I congratulate you MJ for how you have taken this time to immerse yourself in your work...and yet discover another facet of the MJ Orgeron that we have come to know.

This image does you no justice, it is merely an example of taking something I considered 'not worthy of keeping' and tranforming it into something that is colorful and perhaps something - somone may find attractive.. But it was born of 'roaring thunder, mighty winds, lightening, and torrential rain......all elements although 'natural'. have a very profound connection to some very real but manageable - inner fears.

None of us on PN are without our fears, or anxieties, but together, with our images, perhaps we can make PN a Haven for Creativity and Resourse of Help for One Another. Please excuse my 'lengthy communication' - but I felt I had to say 'something.'.......it has been said...and for your pleasure-----I will now be 'quiet'....very very ...quiet. !!

About your composition, to me is an excellent one. The treatment and colors are unique. And the presentation, as always, is great. The flowers with their motion are trying to say something. Beautiful work, Gail. Congrats!

Thankyou David for you time and consideration of this Photo...I do know the "commentary' is lengthy...but if you find opportunity to read it...I know you will understand....at least I'm pretty sure I know 'that much about you'....thankyou for your support...sincerely, Gail

I totally was not sure where to put this Photo....while it could also be

abstract, the commentary that goes with it is not 'really' while at the same

time quite 'dramatic' in nature.....perhpas "ABSTRACT' is where it should

have gone.....comments welcome....with many thanks....Gail

As impressed as I am by the creativity and beauty this photograph exhibits, I am impressed more by your words about MJ. In Hebrew, I believe the words are "Neshama Hagadol" - the great soul. Yours truly is embodied in your wisdom, as well as your art.

I am happy that you did take this out of the "bin" and created this very beautiful and elegant piece of art. I totally agree about the colours and the light that is just like a painting by one of the old french masters during the early 1920. I was also very moved about what you write about my friend MJ, who is an outstanding photographer and with a very sensitive way of creating his photos. This shows that you are a woman with a big heart and that you always think of other people and their situation. Take good care dear Gail, God bless and take care. Best wished from your friend in Stockholm, Jannica

Gail! Gail! _ I don't like to 'bullshit' people and Iam telling you it would have been a 7/7 but PN rules again come into play (I have given out too many 7.7s).. I looked at the image, read your inspiring comments and then went to review your portfolio one more time. I have concluded that this 'almost discarded' image is the one that appeals to me the most - - that painterly effect and that mauve/orange combination is to die for. You have inspired me to see if I can emulate to some small degree (probably need a degree) what you have created here. warm regards,

Gail a blend of where art meets life meets art meets Gail . Well done soft focal edges to fade the colors and the textures are fantastic a painting in fact. Again appreciate your sharing and of course your comments on my shots as always... I do always look forward to new works being posted by you... Indeed you are a wealth of talent! GB MJ

Gail.....First, your narrative about MJ is absolutely touching. Bravo to you for that.

As for resurrecting a photo from the trash heap because a defect (slightly out of focus or the like) consigned it to its ignominious demise...well girl...I sure know what you are talking about!! I too have taken photos with redeeming qualities other than the dastardly singular defect and processed them in a way that often neutralizes the defect and actually produces some very good and interesting end results. This photo is just beautiful!! Very well done!

Dear Gail- I consider myself lucky to be counted among your friends. Your beauty and compassion will leave this world a better place. I am also glad to hear that MJ navigated this terror physically unscathed, although mentally can we ever endure something as ugly and senseless as a bombing without some scars that we carry for life? A credit to him that he has forged ahead, one foot in front of another as we all do when enduring tragedy and loss. As for your picture. All I can say is it is simply beautiful. It reminds me of a poem I heard many years ago. I would like to dedicate it to you and your salvaged picture:

The Touch of the Masters Hand

Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer

thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on the old violin,

but held it up with a smile; "What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,

"Who'll start the bidding for me?" "A dollar, a dollar"; then two!" "Only

two? Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars, once; three

dollars twice; going for three.." But no, from the room, far back, a

gray-haired man came forward and picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust

from the old violin, and tightening the loose strings, he played a melody

pure and sweet as caroling angel sings.

The music ceased, and the auctioneer, with a voice that was quiet and low,

said; "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow.

A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make

it three? Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice, and going and

gone," said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not

quite understnad what changed its worth." Swift came the reply: "The touch

of a master's hand."

And many a man with life out of tune, and battered and scarred with sin,

Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like the old violin, A

"mess of pottage," a glass of wine; a game - and he travels on. "He is

going" once, and "going twice, He's going and almost gone." But the Master

comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul

and the change that's wrought by the touch of the Master's hand.

All my best Gail-Jim

I speak very little about the bomb and troubles suffered here in Indonesia and have not published any shots of the explosion of which I have many, I have endured bombings at the Merriot before 4 years ago when I was residing there, then at the Auzzy Emb. in which my office is accross the street from, also the Bali Bombing in which I was having a break. So it has become kind of a aspect in my life in which I try not to focus...

Therefore I turn my attention to the things I enjoy , the wooden ships, the rich wild life, the city, the people... I am soon to move from my adopted home Indonesia to parts unknown as work moves me around much... I am blessed to have friends on PN that I can exchange ideas with and see the beauty they capture, I can admire the art created and comments expressed... I can laugh at some of the humor in shots or passion in work... I am indeed blessed to have made so many great friends... Thanks Gail , thanks others like Warren, Art X , Jannica, and on and on and on! LOL MJ

You understand me as if we were 'sisters'.........and I'd like to think in 'heart' we are. Your sensitiity, and comphrension of how the 'creativity that runs through my veins'........astounds me. Your sense of my 'self' is only recognized because you, my friend, are one who posseses many of the same qualities...and even more. I always 'learn' not only from your paintings, but also your comments.....thankyou for being such a good friend......Gail
