HOLY MOLY!!! His knees are like what 1 inch from the floor?? This is an insane picture that made me cringe =)

But on the technical aspect, it is very impressive you captured him so clearly. They must've been going so fast you'd have to plan ahead of where they'd be..right?

I will continue posting images from this race. I have two where the knee pad is touching the ground.

I have been photographing from this location for over ten years. This is the first year that I tried autofocus, and while I think it was working out okay I quickly got frustrated when the camera would not achieve focus lock on every attempt. I am not sure that is something I can turn off on my D2X or not. I will have to check. So yes I went back to my tried and true prefocus method. With such limited depth of field I had to decide exactly where I wanted the bike to be to get the shot. I found that spot on the ground and left the focus set at that distance and turned off the autofocus. Confirming focus using the rear LCD was a blessing compared to the days of film. This was the first year that I shot two successive shots for each attempt. The first shot when I thought the bike was in the right place and the second shot which generally was the one that was in correct focus. I was shooting at 5 fps.

It is the tightest turn on the track so I suspect that they are going somewhere between 60 and 100 kph, or 35 to 60 mph.

The weather was crap, again, so I did not get as many different angles as I prefer.

Thanks for your comments!

Very nice. Apart from the difficulty in getting such a perfect shot, the fact that there are three of them in a row at the same angle really is impressive!
