I don't have any personal experience with this as art but I think it's very cool. My family often likes to look for treasures on the beach, this might be part od a future quest.

Very creative. Nice pastel colors. Your friend truly has an eye for the beautiful. Driftwood art is seen on many shores of India. As here, often the product is abstract in nature. You might be interested to learn that the idol worshiped at the famous Jagannath Temple at Puri, Orissa, India ( a reputed religious place) is traditionally made of driftwood. My compliments.
