jerrymat 3 Posted August 10, 2009 Your model has pale skin and you seem to have accentuated this with very flat lighting that casts very little shadow. The only place the skin seems to have taken on a lively feeling is in the shadow of her right eye socket (picture left). Since she has dark hair and you used a black backgrond her hair blends in to it. Either a lighter background or special lighting to separate the hair from it would work better. mjgerstein 0 Posted August 11, 2009 Thank you for your comments. They are much appreciated. I wanted to respond to Jerry whom I appreciate took the time to make an extensive review. Yes, the model has pale skin. But I intentionally exaggerated this by producing a moderately high-key portrait. I liked the dramatic effect of this high key treatment. I appreciate the fact that this is not to your taste, and that's fine, but the "flatness" was intentional. I did maintain more detail in the skint than a full blown high key. Your point about the contrast of the hair and background is also well taken. My only defense is that there was enough light on the hair that you can still discern every detail. For one of my portraits that is more traditional, you may want to check out http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=9530577 Again, thank you very much for the extensive review. It is appreciated. --mj Link to comment
