GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted July 31, 2009 Thank you so much for your encouraging critique...taken while on a cruise with my Mom and Dad....Really hot Sunny day....had not used a DSLR before...but Dad let me use his Olympus E-1.......I'm amazed it came out so well....I loved exploring this old Fortress......and like you...I imagine all sorts of stories..if you go online and search out "Fortress San Cristobal" .......there is a Puerto Rico Gov. Site and there is a wonderful History to the fort. many tnks for the time you took to comment....sincerely, Gail Link to comment
twig1 0 Posted July 31, 2009 Gail: San Cristobal, Puerto Rico is such a interesting place, I was there last January. This photo is nicely composed. I was wondering if before you framed the photo was the right end of the second cannon complete? If so did would reframe to show that end. Just a minor point. Give how sunny a day it must have been you did a very good job getting the exposure right. Tom Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted July 31, 2009 Yeh...you know what Tom...thankyou for pointing that out...didn't have 'heat stroke'....I haven't been 'right on the ball' so to speak....On Tuesday we sold our house FIRM at 3:30 in the afternoon...then rushed out of town to where my parents live and within a 4 hour time frame had SOLD this house and BOUGHT another one FIRM.....it's been a long haul....and the 'mental relief' has left me in a state of 'emotional brain fart'; excuse my lack of manners...but I don't know how else to explain it. I can see where I did my stroke..and it is too wide.....'rats'.........forgive my oversignt...never noticed it at all....will have to remedy it....thankyou so much for bringing that to my attention....THAT aside.....San Cristobal is wonderful isn't it....we lucked out to get such a lovely day....and I lucked out to get any images at all....just because of my inexperience with Dad's camera...but that 'error' is in my editing not 'clicking'.....tnks 'bunches'.....Gail Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted August 1, 2009 Thanks for your wishes of 'good luck'....everything went so smoothly, but I hadn't slept a 'wink' the night before....(was searching MLS listings for this house we'd seen)as the folks who bought, had spent a long time in our 'community' the day before.....After we got word that it was FIRM........our agent had informed us that the 'house' we wanted was still on the market......other offer had till 21st to firm up....(but they'd had no action to speak of on their home). So we didn't waste any time, jumped in the car....Peterborough is only about 45 min from where we live.....but we didn't want to take the chance on someone else 'getting' it. We'd been 'bumped' before and it was a horrible feeling...so I wasn't too keen on doing that to someone....but we have tried to move for 2 years........it was either go FIRM on that house...or continue my 'spiral into oblivion'.........tnks for your good wishes,,,,will need them......sincerely, Gail Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted August 2, 2009 Nicely composed, and I like the frame too. Thought you might like these to go with them: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=9558781 :-) Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 0 Posted August 2, 2009 Looks like you already knew how to shoot before you picked up your dad's camera :) I too love the textures here. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted August 3, 2009 I had a Fuji S5000 but found it was more like a Point and shoot, with a few added features....you could not add lenses....but Dad's Olympus.......I couldn't have told you much about any of the functions except I knew where the 'auto' button was. At that time and even many times now...I am still learning about 'how' a DSLR works and the 'theroy's' behind Exposure, Shutter Priority, Fstop.....White Balance....Bracketing, there is still 'tons' for me to learn......I had a basic concept of taking a pic.....the processing and cropping etc. are an added bonus to me now when I process these photos from 2006. Thankyou for your encouraging remarks....very appreciative....Gail Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted August 3, 2009 Thankyou so much for your kind remarks and the link...I will be checking that out a bit later....am in the middle of editing...you are so kind to give me a link to some more Photos....sincerely, Gail Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 3, 2009 somehow i missed this one... I love old forts and the way time has ate away at the history. where men tried to make history through destruction and war, histroy and time itself eats away at the very weapons of war... I like this shot very much.. Have a great day always MJ Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks very much MJ.....haven't been online....I got 'older' yesterday'.......so spent the day at my parents for B'day cake and a great dinner....not to mention their 'company'....it is always a 'good' day when I am with them. This is one of those photos that I was amazed turned out.....on a cruise with my parents and Dad had let me use his Olympus E1(pretty sure that's the one)..had never used a DSLR......didn't know what any of the buttons meant...Dad just set to "auto' and told me to 'take pictures!!!'.............I agree with your comment......about the 'war and the weapons of war'........I love also exploring these ancient places.....so much 'history'......'who shot these canons.....and what become of all the souls that passed through....and fought bravely in this old and intriguing fortress?'.........tnks so much for your comments....sincerely, Gail Link to comment
