gungajim 75 Posted July 26, 2009 I think you need to show the entire facade or crop above porch below roofline and just show roof and sign. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 26, 2009 Thanks....this is what I wanted to hear. Can't do much about the crop at this point though. There was a bunch of ugly scrub vegetation below the porch, so I opted to do this crop. Besides, I was really interested in the sign and roof. I'm including a crop.....is this what you had in mind, Jim? Except for the unusual texture on the building, I don't know how interesting it is.....I'd be happy to hear your opinion. Thanks so much to both of you! Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted July 29, 2009 I prefer the entire building, not just the sign--it's an interesting structure. But, if at all possible, I'd like to see more of the porch area--maybe including a few steps? Obviously, I can 't make a judgment on the vegetation at this point, but I might prefer to put up with some scruffy bushes in the image if a bit more of the porch could be included. Just a thought. Cheers...Bill 5/6 Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 29, 2009 Well, that certainly makes it unanimous. I should have included more of the porch. Too bad I didn't, and I certainly can't go back to N. Dakota where I shot this. I guess I'll just enjoy the sign for what it's worth, and chalk this one up to a lesson learned. I should have provided myself more options by shooting it from more of a distance. Good to hear from you, and thanks for your input! Link to comment
jtipton 0 Posted July 30, 2009 and the horizon of the roof is crooked..... Just kidding ::)). Hi Christal, I am very glad to see you posting again. This is a great shot, I can play devils advocate and cite the fact that this becomes more creative and really forces the eye to the sign at the top with your choice of crop. More of the porch runs the risk of turning this into another nice snap shot. The choice of crop prevents that and to my eye makes it more interesting. Very nice job with the b/w conversion, the tonal range is nice across the spectrum without any serious clipping in the highlights and shadows. Side note: the water in the Puget Sound picture was really that dead calm. Perfect conditions! Thanks so much for the kind comment. All my best-Jim Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks for your comment on this.....I agree with you actually. This shot may not win any competitions, but I thought there were enough interesting elements to it to post. And thanks for giving me a chuckle..... Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted August 1, 2009 A perfect shot doesn't always equate to an interesting one. This is an interesting one, despite the listed "issues." Once one looks past what isn't there, the smile can settle in. Link to comment
