Christal... Beautiful colors and the detail is superb. He looks like he's asking for a treat... Mike

Christal,

I agree with Michael: great colors and detail!

However, I think that the picture is a bit "flat." So I allowed myself to change your image to better explain what I mean.

If you do not want it there just say and I will remove it.

Nice shot!

Stefano

I'm delighted that you cared enough to help me improve this. I tend not to like over-saturated and unnatural looking photos, so I often err on the side of caution. Also, my editing skills are still very primitive, and sometimes I just don't know what to do. Your version is indeed better.....bold and intense colors without being too 'over the top'. It's still very believable. Could you help me by telling me what you did? It isn't simply upping the saturation....I'm sure it's a combination of things. I'd appreciate your help, but in the meantime I'll tinker with mine and see if I can improve it. Thanks so much Stefano.

Actually, Stefano's background correction improve a lot the global effect, but, on the other hand I prefer Christal's foreground (parrot). In Stefano's version the parrot's blurring is excessive and the darkening of the parrot diminish the readability of the foregraound against the background.

The picture itself, anyway, is very nice.

Christal,

I agree with Mauro my rework seem too blurred and so, according to its specifications, I upload a version where I have only darkened the background, keeping the subject in light.

For this rework I've used two plug-in from Nik Software that I use in Apple Aperture 2.1.3: Viveza and Color Efex Pro.

Christal, be patient, this is the last time I upload a file on this image.

Again, if you do not want it there just say and I will remove it.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

Stefano.

Thanks so much for trying again. I've been working on it, and I actually came up with something that looks much like your last version. Now I'm having trouble loading it. I want to replace my new version over the old version so I don't lose my comments. I've done this before, but for some reason it won't do it. Can you suggest something I can try? Then you can see what I've come up with. And I do think your last version is about right and very nice. Your original version had much good about it, but on my monitor it was a little too much. But the important thing is that you got me thinking and experimenting.....and by so doing, I've learned some things. Thank you!

Christal,

my sincere compliments!! You have done a very good job! This version is truly wonderful.

I think you cannot replace the original image with the latest, you must re-post the new image and eventually send a new request for critique to the forum.

From here (the original page) you can warn everyone that there is a new version on which you ask comments.

It was a pleasure to meet you!

Best regards. 6/6 Anon.

Now don't you feel like a great teacher? Your suggestions helped me so much with this. Thanks again. Now I'm going to go over and have a look around your portfolio. BTW, there used to be a way to replace an older image with a newer one without losing your ratings and comments. I'm sure there must be a way. I'll ask around and let you know if I find a way. Thanks!

Christal... The deeper richer colors in your revised version are excellent. As for reposting - you have to go to Photo Admin - Edit image info - File to upload - Submit..... and then WAIT. The server will eventually (up to 24 hrs) update the current image.

I thought there was a way....thanks, friend! You've helped me enormously!! I'm trying to figure out some things about deepening colors because I have a photo (a different one) I want to print out for my Photo Club's competition.....my first time to enter anything. I tried replacing another photo last night, and the change happened immediately.....I didn't know you may have to wait up to 24 hrs. The administrator guys are going to be pretty ticked off at me.....I've tried it a million times. :-) Have a good day....gotta run.

I am hoping this will come through showing my name.   Thank you for your note.   Did not realize that my other comments came through anonymous.   See if this works.  Anyway, this is a lovely close up of this beautiful bird.  Such vivid colors and great details.  I can even see the individual feathers!  Well done.
