edmondcarson 0 Posted July 22, 2009 just wondering what post-processing was done here regarding the black and white conversion. Very nice capture. Regards, Edmond Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted July 22, 2009 The expose was difficult with shadows and bright sun. I processed the raw image 4 times, one for each correct exposure needed, I then converted each to B&W and adjusted using the channel mixer in PS. I combined the four images into one and cut out sections of each layer as needed. I did not want the HDR look. I am happy with the result. I could keep a very dramatic sky and get nice separation between the rock and sky. What were your thoughts? Link to comment
charly makray-rice 0 Posted July 23, 2009 Good work of this subject in B&W - wide range of tone achieved. Link to comment
edmondcarson 0 Posted July 25, 2009 When I first saw it, I thought a filter might bring out the subtle differences in the colors of the trees, giving the lower half of the composition more texture, but I think it's a great shot as is. Thanks for taking a look at my gallery. Regards, Edmond Link to comment
robwilson 0 Posted July 31, 2009 Hi Douglas, I have a few thoughts on this one. The composition is classical and lovely. The sky is great as are the trees. The only issue is where the mountains meet the sky - I can see a clear 'cut' line. I don't know if there is any way around it by the way you've processed it - I don't know enough about processing to be honest. Perhaps you could try exposure blending with HDR software? That way you hopefully won't get the HDR look, but something more natural. So, all in all, if you can do something about the 'cut' (?) lines then you have a winner. I hope that's useful! All the very best, Rob Link to comment
rekaras 0 Posted August 4, 2009 This is a great, majestic shot. I think the bw treatment is well done in it's composition and tonality and puts me in mind of an Ansel Adams rendering. Well done, kudos, rek. Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted August 10, 2009 Rob, I should try HDR software. I have been very turned off of HDR from images that I have seen here on PN that use the process. It looks so unnatural. But maybe it is possible to get good results. Richard, Thanks for the comment although my image and Ansel Adams in the same sentence is already too much. Link to comment
