David... I know Friday night is slow on PN, but this photo deserves more than a couple of anon's with 4's! It's not only original, but the pose is priceless and the exposure is superb. Another fabulous portrait of Rose; probably my favorite to date... Mike

I'm very gratified my your thoughts Mike, thank you. I was quite excited when this photo began to "develope" for me - and it's become my recent favorite too.

I'm fairly new to PN, but have learned to expect some very low ratings, regardless of the quality of the work. I'm not just speaking of my photos either - there are many examples here of good to excellent work that get denigrated with anon 3's & 4's immeadiatly after posting. I wonder at the motive here - it's disheartening at worst, unhelpful at best.

Thanks again, Daivd

David...I have been looking at your photos for some time now, and I must say that your dogs are absolutely beautiful, you capture them in a way that shows them in their OWN element... you are on of the few photographers on here that I feel compelled to show my girlfriend your photos...she just loves your shots, and is a photographer as well. she grew up with German wirehaired pointers, and knows the breed quite well. I couldn't agree with Michael's comment more, photo.net should do away with the anon. comments, maybe people would be a little more conscious with their critiques if they thought they would be held accountable for them. I often wonder what these peoples photographs look like, I'd bet I have a good idea! sometimes I think its more about the social hob Knobing on here than the actual photographers talents. It goes back to the old saying, if you cant say something nice, then don't say anything at all. I understand that this is a critique forum, but any good critique starts with a good comment, and ends with possible improvements.I wouldn't change a thing with this shot. Congrats on a wonderful portfolio!

Wonderful picture David, very 'old world'. I learned a lot from this one shot, something I can't express well I'm afraid, just a lighting/mood thing I guess. I would like to know how you darken out the edges so? Thanks for sharing........Dave :)

David,

I almost commented on this yesterday when I was perusing your gallery, but decided I had left enough fan mail! :) It is a beautiful portrait and one of my favorites in your collection. Don't let the low ratings (I was reading the other posts) discourage you (I know it's easier said than done, especially when you are an emotional photographer...it shows in your work); I am getting them too, and many other really fine photos also, with no explanation. Keep up the good work, I am becoming a fan! :)

Thanks to all who have been gracious enough to view and comment. Your input more than makes up for the sour grapes hiding in the woodwork :).

Dave - one can darken edges, corners, etc. with a vignette, an edge burn, or brush of any shape, size, or hardness. I don't know what software you use, but most should have these tools.

Greg - glad you girlfriend likes the shot as well, and I agree with you on your feelings on anon. ratings - I see no constructive purpose for them.

Trisha - thanks for the support & fan mail! We will press on regardless eh?

Elaine, Dirk, & Marta - thanks again.

Best, David

this is definitely one of the best pet portraits I've seen on Pnet. Great pose, light and colours. Simple and very effective. Cheers, Micheal

David, you sure know a good dog capture. This is cute beyond words, but I can still sense the character and soul of a great animal companion. Wonderfully composed, and wonderful light use.
