This model has great potential. The lighting looks artificial, however, and I would start a little earlier to get highlights in the background, so it looks less like a backdrop, and your model would have less fall off on her arms and hair.

She could be a great muse, if you do some more shooting with her.

Thanks for the input. I think I agree about the background. I had subdued it a bit, but think I over did it. I am going to try bringing the highlights out a bit per your recommendation.

That might help, but I was thinking that next time it would be good to have a little more ambient light mixed with the flash, by opening the lens or using a slower shutter speed. It seems like this could be a very inviting background.

I understand what you said about using a slow shutter speed to get more ambient light in the background. Here is, basically, the original image before I screwed it up. ;)

This original image was what I envisioned when I first took picture and set my camera and flash. I was just trying for some more dramatic lighting and subdued the background.

So, do you think the background in the original is too subdued as well?
