I've been using it about a year. It is sharpest at f8 and can be handheld. Being sharpest at f8 makes it a bright light lens, but I've had some lower light luck with it...but, I think that it was true luck.

 

There aren't many other choices in it's price range unless you get the 300 mm f4 and use a 1.4 or 1.7 TC.
