So the story goes:

 

The Brown-headed Cowbird’s primary food source came as a result of

following the Great Bison Herds. The Great Herds were always on the

move so the Brown-headed Cowbird did not have time to build a nest

and raze young. So to insure survival of the species they laid their eggs

in other bird’s nests. The baby Cowbirds grow faster than the other

young and they push them out of the nest to perish, thereby, receiving

all of the unsuspecting surrogate parent’s attention.
