davidorea 1 Posted July 6, 2009 Lovely sunset, Rita. A delight of scene, colors and atmosphere. I like the darkness in the clouds and in the ocean. High quality photograph! Congrats! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 9, 2009 The composition works for me, and the clouds in front of and just above the sun are quite effective, as well. However...I think this is a textbook example of where even just a bit of HDR technique would really help the image. The clouds in the center of the frame could use a bit of a boost of local contrast to help give them more dimensionality. The upper third of the frame is almost formless, but that small break at the top of the frame looks like it has the potential to really define it as a massive cloudbank...if only you could see the dimensionality there, as well. I like the sea here dark and moody in contrast to the glory of the setting sun, but this sea is closer to dark and muddy. If there were some catchlights from the sun off the water, that would really help. Barring that, lightening the sea just a tad so you can increase the local contrast there would help a great deal. Last, that little bit of hill in the right foreground certainly helps the composition, but it's just a silhouette. Blending in a separate exposure to give it some detail would be really nice. I'd keep it dark, but maybe lighten it to about the tonality of the sky just above. But only if you get detail out of it! Must have been a lovely evening. I hope you enjoyed taking the picture, and I hope you get a chance to practice taking that kind of shot some more! Cheers, b& Link to comment

whosecameraisforpix 0 Posted August 9, 2009 I tried a similar one sometime ago, and the setting sun is a great subject! Love this one. Regards Link to comment
mauroni 0 Posted September 3, 2009 Very nice, Rita, and well executed. Maybe a little bit underexposed, but not too severe. Mauro Link to comment
