Taken in April of 2005 during film days. This is Fuji Velvia 50, which always provided excellent vivid color and punchy contrast. A photoshop b&w conversion renders a rich and robust black point, which reminds me of images from days of old. My digital conversions pull more midtones, which sometimes lack in contrast. No lack of contrast here, yet I still think it delivers a visually pleasing image. Take a look at the Larger preview and give me your thoughts!

Beautiful conversion, Mark! It's sharp and clear, and you're right about the black point really bringing a punch to this image. And it's such a lovely place.....to boot! I've never been here, but I've seen many pictures of these Falls.....none as lovely as this! Hope there aren't too many sleepless nights in your house these days!

This is beautiful Mark, and the larger view is gorgeous. Tones are perfectly covering the entire range, from full black to pure white, with a number of subtle nuances in between. Great work in capturing as well as in processing this magnificent picture.

Thank you Christal and Paolo. I originally processed this from a scan of the slide. When I prepared this at the time, I really knew nothing about PP except what I had figured out myself. As a result, the file had little in the way of blacks and the darkest shadows were kind of milky. When I made the b&w conversion, I set the blacks. The result is a very punchy rendition. I will admit, there is a fair amount of pixelation because the original image was processed from an 8-bit file (this was before I even knew about 16 bit processing). Even still, I know it would print OK because the pixelation would get lost in the shadows due to dot-gain. Thanks for your kind comments!

Contrasty, but just right. It's all those little leaves that stand out and give almost a star like appearance to this that I really enjoy. The composition is right on as well, just excellent! It's nice to see some more images from you, even if they're oldies, they're goodies :)
