Not Here 93 Posted June 29, 2009 Dick... You're making excellent use of the new kayak. This is a beautiful shot and I'm most impressed with the detail in the black heads... Mike Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted June 29, 2009 There is no sound like the 'call of the loon'....no camping trip or cottage weekend is truly 'complete' until you hear their mournful call.....touches me in a way I cannot describe...this shot is a beauty...so serene....congrats Richard...you've got a beauty here...sincerely, Gail Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted June 29, 2009 Thank you very much, Bob, Jean-Marc, Mike, Jim and Gail! The new kayak is very nice! These are such interesting and beautiful birds. You definitely have to be where they are, they are not coming to you. So, if you are lucky, as I was for this shot, you can get a good look and a chance to capture something special. Best regards, Dick Link to comment
laiyatming 0 Posted June 30, 2009 Very nice pair of birds here Richard. Good low angle, well managed expsoure showing very fine details on the feathers. Just wish there is more separation between the birds. Regards Robert. Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted June 30, 2009 Such beautiful birds, especially in their breeding plumage and you managed to get 2 of them. Link to comment
lesliejbng 0 Posted June 30, 2009 Wonderful capture of this amazing bird! I watched a pair of loons on a local lake, watching them dive and resurface. I was amazed as I readied my camera, they dove and resurfaced far out of getting a decent shot. My guess was they were under water swimming for a good 4 minutes! I guess a kayak would be helpful! Great shot and detail Richard. Take care, Leslie Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted July 1, 2009 Thank you very much, Monte and Leslie! These birds are residents of the lake where my family has a cabin. They can dive 90 feet and swim up to 200 yards underwater. They are amazing to watch. To photograph them you have to be near them on the lake in something quiet. The kayak is good because you are very close to the water. Then you wait. And, if you are lucky, they will surface nearby and at a good angle to the sun. I was very lucky that it worked for this shot. This was one of about 20. Have a good night! Dick Link to comment
