Guest Guest Posted June 27, 2009 The DOF seems to match the look in her eyes. Both have depth. The hand in the foreground is a nice touch. Lovely skin tones and nicely soft. Link to comment

GerrySiegel 868 Posted June 28, 2009 Quite lovely face, handsome contours. I don't find the background interesting enough to see her in a horizontal composition, ALTHOUGH it portrays Colleen's beauty in an urban and commonplace setting-which may be well important to your choice. I guess the drainpipe on the left feels a bit sort of out of place (somewhat), but just a feeling I have. Those are killer eyes. She has the "It' quality. I hope she can sing or act. Then she has a career on stage or screen too. I wish you both well, Doug. aloha, gs Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted July 6, 2009 My apologies for the long delay in responding. Thanks for commenting. Gerry, I appreciate your calling attention to the pipe and the horizontal format. Personally, I often don't object to a horizontal crop for portraits, even if it includes so much environment. Maybe I've been influenced by too much cinema, were I've become accustomed to a wide screen, or horizontal aspect ratio. Obviously, the norm is vertical, and there are portrait situations which demand it. I thought about cropping this capture vertically, but I didn't like how that decision cemented her to the brick background. The horizontal, as you're saying, gives her some perspective, and works better, in my opinion, than just her head and shoulders. That said, I didn't really like the hand coming up out of the bottom, and would rather have had some more space below, but it does, after all, help establish her mood and frame of mind. Of the frames I did shoot vertically, I don't remember liking any of them. If I had to shoot this again, I would probably do it the same. Link to comment
