This is from a recent outdoor photo shoot... the child's mother was

insistent that I not bother the child, just shoot.

Are the peaks of the fence posts distracting to you? Does his face

stand out against the light background enough? Is his shirt too

distracting? All of these are things I'm trying to work on...blending and

contrasting. I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on these topics, as well as

any other constructive comments you'd like to make. Thanks!

It is a very good candid shot and i love it, esp. because of the pov u've taken

Ryan, as far as the questions that you're thinking about I agree with Rajat. I think this is a nice portrait, but for me the way he's leaning forward is somewhat awkward. Maybe being able to see what he's doing would help. I would be curious to see some of your other shots of him. I think you've captured his obvious delight well.

Are the peaks of the fence posts distracting to you? No, and they are very Paul Strand, so keep them.

Does his face stand out against the light background enough? Not for my taste. I would like it a little more contrasty, not much but a bit.

Is his shirt too distracting? No, the black and white stripe pattern is fine. What I don't like very much is the way the shirt is raised on his shoulders.

A lower point of view would have placed the camera on the same plane as his sight and this would have given more sense of presence of the child in front of the camera.

All in all, the child is beautiful and his face expression is sweet, I think his mommy will like it a lot.

Thanks everyone.

He is climbing a ladder to a slide. I am at the bottom of the slide standing straight and tall (I'm 6'4"). It's cropped in a bit because of a rope that is part of the playstation: it was dangling to his left and was laying on the perch he was climbing to. I made the choice to crop.

@ Lorenza - Mom already ordered two 11x14's and 6 8x10's to distribute to family, some in color as well as this image. :-)
