davidmccracken 2 Posted June 22, 2009 There's something about the way this girl looks at the camera! Feedback appreciated. Link to comment
timmahj_junker 0 Posted June 22, 2009 Almost very good. chins up too high. Cropped different or tilt head more.. Link to comment
sacha_de_carlo 0 Posted June 23, 2009 My neck hurts David. Why do you make me do this? Nice use of the scarf. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 23, 2009 Timmahj, Yes! I think photo.net would be a far better place if we all took photos the way you took them. Forgive the sarcasm but I am very glad we don't. If you are going to make statements about pose or crop, you might try making suggestions. Sacha, Does there have to be a reason why? Sometimes it is just 'good' to try something different although I do appreciate Timmahj might not think so. Link to comment
david_l._forney 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Sometimes the virtue of an image can be seen upon first impression. To me, this is a beautiful and pleasing image. I like the way you framed her face with the scarf and her hair. The scarf brings out the subtle shade of pink on her lips, and of course her hair compliments her eyes - the focal point of the photograph for me. The skin tones on her face are perfect! (Do you have a CMYK formula for a female Asian face? I find them sometimes difficult to get color correct.) I don't mind tilting my head to see this pretty girl. From my modest armature's perspective, I like it! David Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 24, 2009 Very kind words David and I thank you for making them. I do not like all the photographs I upload to p.nut but this is one that I do like mainly for the reasons you mention. I do not use any CYMK formula for photographing anyone. However, I do always (nearly always) use custom white balance which does seem to work. Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted June 24, 2009 she IS a natural! lovely photograph... a refreshing change from the usual stuff... my compliments Link to comment
lopezslf 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Yes, this model is natural in from to the camera. And you are good on getting good details. The framing from the scarf is very good. Link to comment
mjgerstein 0 Posted June 25, 2009 Let me add my two cents. First, I think we should encourage difference and experimentation. Even if we don't care for the result (I DO like this one). It is nice to appreciate what the photographer is trying to achieve. I find no discomfort in the pose. I particularly appreciate the use of light in this photo. The model's face is compelling, not just because of her natural appeal, but due to how her face is lighted. --mj Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 25, 2009 Rajat, Perhaps not too unusual but hopefully a little different. Thanks for stopping by. Luis, Details are important. I am glad you noticed the effort. Thanks! MJ, I am glad you like it. I honestly didn't think this was too out of the ordinary but perhaps to some it is. I appreciate your 2 cents worth. Link to comment
gsphotoguy 3 Posted June 25, 2009 Maybe I'll create some additional controversy by saying I like an awful lot about this photograph. Although unusual, her head position allows us to connect with her stunning eyes. Her expression is simple but effective. The scarf adds framing and a bright color that contrasts nicely with her grey shirt. It alos flows beautifully. Overall, a well made portrait. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 26, 2009 Thanks for the comment. Being honest, I don't think you are creating any controversy. However I am glad you like it. Link to comment
jeverz 0 Posted June 26, 2009 What a beautiful portrait, and such nice colors!(Thanks for your comment, I think you were right about the post processing. I tried to let it look like a drawing. Must say that i wasnt sure myself about it.) Link to comment
mikeoday 0 Posted June 27, 2009 A beautiful and unique portrait David with lovely tones and detail. I particularly like the sense of depth and the way you have generated a wonderful engagement between the subject and the viewer. As one looks at it longer one can see how your choice of colour and tone helps achieve the depth; deep neutral out of focus background and then closer to the viewer you have the lighter shade of the same tone in the shirt followed by the wonderful colour that draws the eye to the subject, and finally, the bright skin tones and engaging eyes capture the attention. A very lovely and well constructed image. All the best, Mike Link to comment
